Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) has a low student-faculty ratio of 11:1, with 62% of the classes having fewer than 20 students allowing students to prosper from a close working relationship with faculty for a more tailored experience.

The Kelvin Smith Library is the student hub of study complete with learning spaces, special collections, and multimedia labs, as well as access to thousands of books, journals, periodicals, Cds, DVDs, and eResources.

There are opportunities for CWRU students to develop their entrepreneurial skills while studying. The Veale Institute for Entrepreneurship has so many resources for students to utilise, like events involving industry professionals and alumni of the university and the Startup Toolkit is a great compiled list of places for students to find the specific resources for their needs. 

CRWU startups have managed to attract over $50 million in follow-on investment and the university is currently averaging a launch of five companies per year in the areas of energy & materials, medical devices & imaging, software, and therapeutics. 

Research And Development

Case Western Reserve University is an R1: Doctoral University, meaning that its research output is of incredible quality. The university’s attitude towards its research reputation starts from the ground up as 86% of students at CWRU engage in research opportunities, often in a student’s first year. The university has had 16 Nobel Laureates as part of their alumni network, with CWRU proving to be an excellent springboard to academic success. 

In 2018-2019 the university engaged in 1,287 research projects, created 174 inventions that same academic year, and earned $331.7 million in sponsored research project funding. 

The university also has facilities off campus for scientific research, such as the Warner and Swasey Observatory and the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona.

Careers Services at Case Western Reserve can help students in regards to their employability through workshops, one-to-one counselling, resumé writing, career fairs, and more.

The university uses Handshake, a career management system used by American universities, to help students connect with employers where jobs, internships, and volunteering opportunities are all posted to the users of the platform. 

96% of the class of 2020 secured their employment or advanced education plan, with 99% of respondents claiming that they’d participated in at least one experiential education activity. Student Life

Sport plays a large role in the student life at CWRU with the university having 17 NCAA Division III varsity athletics teams, as well as a host of intramural and club sports. The campus also has three gyms with a host of classes, pools, and friendly staff. 

Downtown Cleveland is a short ride away from the university and offers students great nightlife, cafes, restaurants, outdoor spaces, and opportunities in industry. The city experiences the delights of all four seasons and compared to most other major cities in the country, the cost of living is low. West Side Market is a 100 year-old hub of activity where over 100 vendors are selling any kind of food you could imagine.
